About Us

This website has been created for The Wilderness Society Vic Inc., a member of the Victorian Forest Alliance.

Established in 2004, the Victorian Forest Alliance (VFA), is an alliance of conservation groups working for the protection of high conservation value native forests in eastern Victoria. The VFA has an agreed position on the areas of native forests in eastern Victoria in need of urgent protection, and we work to help create a long term, sustainable, plantation based timber industry in Victoria. This position is outlined in our 2006 publication

In November 2008, 1000 people Rally in Warburton demanding the protection of Victoria’s forests.

MYTH - Vicforests claim, in their climate report that; ‘Environmental activists continue to oppose Australia’s hardwood industry’.

TRUTH - Environmental organisations such as The Wilderness Society support a strong, vibrant logging industry in Victoria, positioned to create ‘green jobs’ in the state’s huge plantation sector, which is now large enough to meet almost all of our wood supply needs.

15,000 march for Victoria’s forests – World Environment Day, 4 June 2006

On 7th September 2006 The Wilderness Society, along with other members of the Victorian Forest Alliance, released a report (PDF, 1.5MB) detailing a plan for Victoria's forests that spells a brighter future for our wildlife, air and water, while also offering a comprehensive transition strategy for the logging industry.

The report details specific areas across eastern Victoria that require immediate protection. The document is underpinned by sound economics and strong science.
